Monako som už navštívil v decembri 2016 a vtedy som zašiel do exotickej kaktusovej záhrady. V čase terajšej návštevy (júl 2022) bola zatvorená z dôvodu rozsiahlej rekonštrukcie. To však neprekážalo, pretože medzičasom oproti vyrástli nové skleníky s ďalšou zbierkou kaktusov. A vstup bol zadarmo. Cesta sem bola úplne rovnaká ako predtým, tzn. autobusom priamo zo železničnej stanice na konečnú. Z dôvodu spomínanej rekonštrukcie bola konečná zastávka preložená o pár sto metrov skôr a preto som musel ísť do cieľa pešo. Som za to vďačný, pretože náhodou som po ceste navštívil Villa Paloma, v ktorej bolo čerstvo zriadené nové národné múzeum. Vstup do malej záhrady bol voľný.  Záhrada to bola formálna s tvarovanými drevinami a záhonmi plnými výhradne bielo kvitnúcimi rastlinami. Tvarované krušpány, olivovníky a citrusy, k tomu bielo kvitnúce levandule a agapanty. Jednoduchá a efektívna výsadba. 

I have already visited Monaco in December 2016 and then I went to the exotic cactus garden. At the time of the current visit (July 2022), it was closed due to extensive renovation. However, this did not interfere, because new greenhouses with another collection of cacti have been built since then. And the entrance was free. The way here was exactly the same as before, i.e. by bus directly from the railway station to the terminus. Due to the aforementioned reconstruction, the final stop was moved a few hundred meters earlier and therefore I had to walk to the destination. I am grateful for this because I happened to visit the Villa Paloma on the way, where the new national museum had just been established. Entrance to the small garden was free. The garden was formal with topiarised trees and beds filled with exclusively white flowering plants. Topiarised boxwood, olive trees and citrus, plus white blooming lavender and agapanthus. Simple and effective planting.

Vstupujem do akéhosi priechodu, ktorý ma vedie po schodoch na prvé poschodie, odkiaľ som vošiel do záhrady. Všetky múry a klenby sú zo žiarivo bieleho kameňa. Celá záhrada je tvorená vysutou terasou ponad cestu. Väčšina rastlín sú vysadené v skleníkoch bez bočných okien. Milovník kaktusov a sukulentov si tu príde na svoje. Ja sám sa v tejto ríši až toľko nevyznám. V prvom skleníku sú rastliny zasadené do voľnej pôdy a prehľadne usporiadané. Veľké jedince sú lankami pevne ukotvené. 

I enter a kind of passage that leads me up the stairs to the first floor, from where I entered the garden. All the walls and vaults are made of bright white stone. The entire garden consists of a raised terrace above the road. Most plants are planted in greenhouses without side windows. Lovers of cacti and succulents will surely be delighted. I myself don't know much about this topic. In the first greenhouse, the plants are planted in loose soil and clearly arranged. Large individuals are firmly anchored by ropes.

Medzi skleníkmi je tiež výsadba zasadená priamo v teréne zasypaná lávovou drťou. V čase mojej návštevy kvitli niektoré druhy rodu Aeonium.
Between the greenhouses, there is also a planting directly in the beds covered with lava rubble. At the time of my visit, some species of the genus Aeonium were blooming.

V druhom skleníku je zbierka kaktusov vysadená v objemných drevených kvetináčoch. Vysoké jedince sú upevnené k tyčiam. Menšie kaktusy sú umiestnené v hlinených kvetináčoch na stoloch a v naozaj veľkom počte. Úplne ako na inej planéte. 

In the second greenhouse, there is a collection of cacti planted in bulky wooden pots. Tall individuals are attached to poles. Smaller cacti are placed in terracotta pots on the tables and in really large numbers. Like on another planet. 

Celý areál je orientovaný na juh a aj vďaka odrazu slnka od všade prítomného bieleho kameňa bolo v záhrade neskutočne teplo. Stúpam po schodom na vyššiu úroveň. Popri múre sú vystavené výhradne sukulenty - aeonium, rôzne aloe, tučnolisty, juky alebo aj brachychiton. 
The whole complex is oriented to the south and thanks to the reflection of the sun from the white stone everywhere, it was incredibly warm in the garden. I climb the stairs to a higher level. Along the wall, exclusively succulents are displayed - aeonium, various aloes, jade plants, yuccas or even brachychiton.

Tu sa nachádza aj posledný skleník s veľkými jedincami nielen sukulentov, ale aj rôznych subtropických druhov. 
Here is also the last greenhouse with large specimens not only of succulents, but also of various subtropical species.

Po obhliadke aj tohto skleníka kráčam po schodoch dolu na ulicu. Na to, že je areál sprístupnený zdarma a Monako bolo v tom čase plné turistov, okrem strážnikov som tu nikoho nestretol. Je to pekné a nevšedné miesto a ak si chcete spestriť prehliadku pamiatok aj exotikou, vrelo odporúčam. Priamo odtiaľto premáva autobus až do starého mesta -  je to pekná vyhliadková jazda. 

After inspecting this greenhouse as well, I walk down the stairs to the street. Despite the fact that the area is accessible for free and Monaco was full of tourists at the time, I didn't meet anyone here except for the guards. It is a nice and unusual place, and if you want to diversify your sightseeing tour with exotics, I highly recommend it. There is a direct bus line from here to the old town - it's a nice scenic drive.
