Béatrice de Rothschild was the wife of a banker, so there's no wonder she had as much money as she wanted . But let's go to the beginning.
Priamo v centre mesta nasadám na autobus číslo 81 a veziem sa Azúrovým pobrežím smerom na Monako. Vyhliadky sú úžasné a dychberúce. Prechádzame cez záliv, z ktorého vidno výbežok pevniny do Stredozemného mora. Je to poloostrov Cap Ferrat. Trasa autobusu síce vedie až k Ville, no vystupujem na začiatku poloostrova v zastávke Baie des Fourmis ("be de furmi"). Pretože som našiel na webe, že odtiaľto vedie pekný chodník po pobreží. A pretože v nedeľu sa Villa otvára až o druhej popoludní, takže dopoludnia sa chcem prejsť :) Bol nádherný teplý a slnečný decembrový deň.
In the center of the city, I get on the bus number 81 and take ride through the Azur coast to Monaco. The views are amazing and breathtaking. We are crossing the bay from which a peninsula running to the Mediterranean sea is seen. This is the Cap Ferrat peninsula. While the bus route leads to Villa, I get off at the beginning of the peninsula at Baie des Fourmis. Because I found on the web that there's a nice walk along the coast. And because on Sunday, Villa opens at 2 pm, so I wanted to take a walk in the morning :) It was a beautiful warm and sunny December day.
Chodník v rovinke sa vinie pobrežím, malými zálivčekmi a okolo bohatých rezidencií. Sem-tam sa ponúkne lavička a pohľad na azúrové more. Takéto chodníčky sa vinú celým poloostrovom, určite je to skvelá destinácia na pešiu a cyklistickú turistiku v každom ročnom období.
The path curves along the coast, small bays and around rich residences. Here-and-there is a bench and a views of the azure sea are offered. Such walks are along the all peninsula, it is certainly a great destination for hiking and cycling in every season.
Po približne pol hodinke prichádzam do prístavného mestečka Saint Jean ("Svätý Ján"). Doslova miniatúrna obec s krátkou hlavnou uličkou a prístavom. Keďže bol sviatočný čas, na ulici boli naaranžované živé jedličky nasprejované umelým snehom. V kombinácii s palmami trošku výstredné.
After about half an hour I arrived at the port town of Saint Jean. A literally miniature village with a short main street and harbor. As it was the feast day, live firs sprayed with fake snow were arranged in the street. Combined with palm trees a bit eccentric though :)
Na hlavnej uličke sme sa najedli. Pochutnal som si na suprových lasaniach. Naozaj skvelá a navonok nenápadná reštaurácia. V mestečku je zároveň konečná autobusu 81 a teda nastúpime a odvezieme sa zopár zástaviek ku Ville. Na zastávke Passable vystupujem a mierim podľa šípok. Bolo niečo pred druhou hodinou a tak teda ešte čakám.
We had a lunch at the main street. I enjoyed delightful lasagne. Really great and restrained restaurant. There is terminus of the bus n. 81 in the city, so we got on and took a few stops to the Villa. At Passable stop, I got off and walk following signs. It was something before 2 pm, so I was still waiting.
Brána sa otvára a len so zopár inými turistami vstupujem dnu. Kupujeme lístky a ideme dnu. Dostávame inštrukcie, že najprv si máme pozrieť záhradu a potom vilu. Súhlasím. A je to tu. Už sa rozplývam, neviem kam skôr sa pozrieť.
The gate opened and with only a few other tourists I enter the area. We bought tickets and go inside. We got instructions that we first shall look at the garden and then the villa. I agreed. And this is it. I'm melting, I don't know where to look first.
Cykasy sa miešajú s palmami a citrusy s cyklámenmi. Do toho všetkého cukríkovo ružová villa.
Cycads are mixed with palms and citrus trees with cyclamens. Besides the all, the candy-pink villa.
Gigantické červenohnedé súkvetia puje (Puya) sa zapichli do oblohy. Tieto nevšedné a vzácne bromélie pochádzajú z Južnej Ameriky.
Gigantic red-brown inflorescence of puya (Puya) has stuck into the sky. These unusual and rare bromelias come from South America.
O chvíľu začne hrať klasická hudba a zapne sa fontána. Krásne divadlo. V záhrade som sám, tak si to neskutočne užívam.
After a moment, the classical music starts to play and the fountain switches on. Beautiful performance. I'm alone in the garden, so I'm really enjoying it.
Areál pozostáva z deviatich záhrad, tak pokračujem ďalej smerom ku schodom. Tam stojí Afrodita v okolí pestrofarebných prvosienok (Primula obconica). Toľká romantika.
The area consists of nine gardens, so I continue towards the stairs. There is an Aphrodite statue standing among multicolored primroses (Primula obconica). Such a romance.
Nachádzame sa na vrchole záhrady a zároveň celého poloostrova, vďaka tomu sa naskytne pomedzi stromy výhľad do diaľky. Prechádzam okolo provensálskej záhrady Jardin provencal ("žardan provonsal"). Santolina, levandule, šalvie, rozmaríny a plno iných byliniek nabádaju k privoňaniu.
Nasleduje kaktusová záhrada s prekrásnym výhľadom. Klasika sú opuncie a agávy.
We are at the top of the garden and at the same time the entire peninsula, thanks to that a long distance views are offered among trees. I walk around Provencal Gardens - Jardin provencal. Santolina, lavender, sage, rosemary, and many other herbs encourage to take a deep scented breath.
Next is a cacti garden with beautiful views. Classics are opuntias and agaves.
Pomedzi nohy sa prepletá kosatec (Iris unguicularis) v plnom kvete. Naozaj je december?
The iris (Iris unguicularis) in full bloom intertwines underfoot. Is it really December?
Schody ma vedú smerom nadol k ďalšiemu altánku s "Afroditou" pod olivovníkom. Tá hľadí na terasovité rozárium. Väčšina ruží je olistená, ale nekvitne. Je to škoda, no v zime ruže nekvitnú. Nevadí.
The stairs lead me down to the next gazebo with "Aphrodite" beneath the olive tree. She looks at the terraced rosary. Most of the roses are in leaf, but they don't bloom. It's a pity, but roses don't flower in winter of course. Never mind.
Cez rozárium zostupujem úplne dolu, odkiaľ spätným pohľadom vidno aj kaktusovú záhradu. Rastú pod píniami a náramne im to sluší.
Through the rosary, I descend downhill, from where a cacti garden can be seen. They grow under the pines and they look great.
Predomnou stojí bambusová bránka vedúca do japonskej záhrady. Kamene, uhrabaný štrk, lucerny a bambusové fontánky navodzujú pokojnú atmosféru.
In front of me, a bamboo gate leading to the Japanese garden stands. The stones, the gravel, the lanterns and the bamboo fountains create a peaceful atmosphere.
Zrazu sa priestor otvára a ocitám sa na malej terase s výhľadom na záliv. Oproti vedie dvojité schodisko späť do záhrady s fontánou.
Suddenly the space opens and I find myself on a small terrace overlooking the bay. Opposite, the double staircase leads back to the garden with fountain.
V rovinke pokračujem ďalej a tak ako podľa mapky, vidím, že cesta vedie do Marockej záhrady. Hlavným motívom je plytký bazén, terakotová dlažba a tak trochu antické prvky. Prekvapením je malá umelá jaskyňa s prameňom.
I continue and according to the map, I see the path leading to the Moroccan garden. The main theme is a shallow pool, terracotta tiles and a bit of antique elements. A surprise is a small artificial cave with a spring.
Za stenou tejto záhrady je vstup do terasy čajovne, pri západnom krídle vily. Typický francúzsky biely nábytok a starý olivovník. Veľmi pekné a tiché miesto na oddych.
Behind the wall of this garden is the entrance to the terrace of the tea room, at the west part of the villa. Typical French white furniture and an old olive tree. Very nice and quiet place to relax.
Obídem celú vilu na druhú stranu a vchádzam dnu. K dispozícii je audio sprievodca v rôznych jazykoch, my sme využili ruskú verziu. Slovenskú ani českú nemali. Centrum vily tvorí akési átrium, z ktorého vedú chodby do izieb a na poschodie. Všetko je v bielej a ružovej farbe. V rohu dominuje vysoký vianočný stromček (bolo cca 2 týždne pred sviatkami).
I get around the whole villa to the other side and walk inside. There is an audio guide in different languages, we used the Russian version. Slovak nor Czech wasn't in offer. The villa's center forms an atrium from which the corridors lead to the rooms and to the 2nd floor. Everything is in white and pink color. There is a tall Christmas tree in the corner (it was about 2 weeks before the holidays).
Sú tu rôzne zbierky sošiek, obrazov, hodiniek a kuchynskej keramiky. Spoločenské miestnosti, čajovňa či spálňa sú klasikou ako v každom kaštieli. Ja si však všímam aj výhľady na krajinu a záhradu. Vrcholom obhliadky je balkón, z ktorého vidno strednú os záhrady. Perfektný výhľad na záhradu a fontánu.
There are various collections of sculptures, pictures, watches and kitchen ceramics. Meeting rooms, a tearoom or a bedroom are classical as in every mansion. But I also look at the views of the countryside and the garden. The top of the tour is the balcony, which shows the central axis of the garden. Perfect view of the garden and the fountain.
Na obhliadku areálu postačia dve hodinky. Nezabudnite v tomto prípade plánovať. Je dobré si pozrieť cestovný poriadok vopred, aby ste nezostali na zastávke autobusu čakať pridlho. Nakoniec teda znova nastupujem do 81-jky a ešte raz si vychutnávam záliv a krajinu. Takže pri návšteve Azúrového pobrežia netreba vynechať túto skvelú vilu na prekrásnom poloostrove. Bisous.
Two hours are enough to see the area. Don't forget to plan in this case too. It's a good idea to check the timetable in advance so that you don't have to wait too long at the bus stop. Finally, I get back into the 81 bus line and enjoy the bay and the landscape once more. So, when visiting the Cote d'Azur, don't miss this great villa on a beautiful peninsula. Bisous.
