V malinkatej dedinke menom Giverny ("živerni") pri Seine, západne od Paríža, stojí ružovo-zelený domček s kvetinovou záhradou. Priam rozprávkové miesto, kde aj ten najmenší obdivovateľ záhrad pookreje. Na takýto výlet som si vyhradil pol júlového dňa.
In a small village called Giverny at the Seine river, west of Paris, there is a pink-green house with a flower garden. A fairytale place, where even the smallest gardener admirers are crouching. I booked half of one July day for this trip.
Z parížskej stanice Saint Lazare som sa odviezol intercity rýchlikom do mestečka Vernon. Cesta trvá tri štvrte hodinku a vedie popri Seine. Vo Vernone pred stanicou parkuje špeciálny shuttle autobus premávajúci do Giverny. Stopy namaľované na chodníku ma doviedli rovno k nemu. Akonáhle sa autobus naplnil, vyrazili sme cez mesto. Cesta trvala krátko, Giverny je susedná obec. Na zbernom parkovisku sme vystúpili a vydali sme sa k Monetovej záhrade. Ideálna príležitosť prejsť sa dedinou. Vyzerá naozaj ako maľovaná so všelijakými domčekmi, obchodíkmi a kaviarničkami.
From Paris Saint Lazare station, I took the intercity train to the city of Vernon. The journey takes 45 minutes and leads alongside the Seine river. In Vernone, in front of the station, a special shuttle bus takes you to Giverny. The footprints painted on the pavement led me straight to it. As soon as the bus was filled, we set out across the city. The journey lasted a short while, Giverny is a neighboring village. We get ogg at the car park and headed for Monet's garden. Ideal opportunity to go through the village. It looks like painted with all kinds of little houses, shops and cafes.

Pred Monetovým domom stojí siahodlhý rad na lístky. Preto odporúčam každému, aby si kúpil lístky vopred cez internetovú stránku Advanced tickets Naozaj, neoplatí sa strácať zbytočne čas. Pri vstupe stálo upozornenie, že pre turistov s vopred kúpenými lístkami je zvláštny vchod. Chvíľu sme ho hľadali, ale predsa našli. Žiaden rad, boli sme okamžite vnútri záhrady.
I see endless queue standing in front of the Monet's house. Therefore, I recommend to buy tickets in advance via the website Advanced tickets. Indeed, it's not worth to waste the time. At the main entrance there was a sign that there is a special entrance for tourists with pre-purchased tickets. We searched it for a while but found it. No queue, we were straight away inside the garden.
Zrazu sa pustil silný dážď. Vzali sme nohy na plecia, prebehli sme celú záhradu nevšímajúc si, ako vyzerá a vošli sme do domu sa skryť. Výsledok? Všetci sa dnu poskrývali a bola totálna tlačenica. Čo iné mi zostávalo, tak sme sa pohli do obývačky s vystavenými obrazmi. Sú naozaj veľmi krásne, prevažne prírodnej tematiky. Potom nasledovali ďalšie izby na prízemí i poschodí, až sme skončili v žltej jedálni a modrej kuchyni. Nádherná keramika, nábytok, pec i kachličky. Z kuchyne vedie východ do záhrady. Akurát prestalo pršať, takže som bol nesmierne šťastný, že sa počasie umúdrilo.
Suddenly a heavy rain start to pour. So we cut and run, we run through the whole garden, not noticing how the garden looks like and we went into the house to hide. The result? Everyone was hiding inside and it was a total crush. What else should we did, so we walked into the living room with the pictures displayed. They are really beautiful, mostly natural themes. Then there were other rooms on the ground floor and the upper floor until we finished in a yellow dining room and a blue kitchen. Beautiful ceramics, furniture, furnace and tiles. The kitchen leads to the garden. Fortunately, it wasn't raining, so I was extremely happy that the weather was finally nice.

Záhrada pred domom je plná trvaliek, letničiek a ruží. Spleť farieb a tvarov. Centrom vedie široký štrkový chodník preklenutý zelenými oblúkmi. Dá sa len odfotiť, vstup naň je zakázaný. Z oboch strán chodníčka sa do jeho stredu plazia kapucínky. Zelená farba je nielen na oblúkoch, ale aj na dome a lavičkách. Veľmi efektné sú dálie (georgíny) s purpurovými listami.
The garden in front of the house is full of perennials, annuals and roses. Mix of colors and shapes. A wide gravel path surrounded by green arches leads through the center of the garden. It's only possible to take a picture, the entrance is forbidden. From both sides of the path, nasturtiums are creeping to its center. The green color is not only on the arches, but also on the house and the benches. The purple leaved dahlias are very showy.
V záhrade je množstvo popínacích konštrukcií, všetky v zelenej.
There are a number of structures for climbers in the garden, all in green.
Trvalky - purpurovolistý čerkáč (vpredu), maky, alchemilky, oranžová ľaliovka, červený horčiak, vzadu žlté rebríčky.
Perennials - purple leaved lysimachia (forward), popies, alchemillas, orange daylily, red persicaria, and yellow arrow at back.
Kvitli ľaliovky, begónie, čerkáče, slnečnice, ruže a množstvo iných trvaliek. Okolo niektorých záhonov rástli nízke tzv. step-over jablone fungujúce ako živý plot. Pred domom je veľký a bohatý záhon ružových a červených muškátov. Rôznymi cestičkami som sa napokon dostal do rohu záhrady, odkiaľ vedie podchod pod cestu na jej druhú stranu.
Daylilies, begonias, lysimachias, sunflowers, roses and many other perennials were in bloom. Around some of the beds grew low so called step-over apple trees, working as a hedge. In front of the house is a large and rich flower bed of pink and red pelargoniums. Through various paths I finally got into the corner of the garden, from where the underpass leads to the other side of the garden.

Monet totiž neskôr prikúpil pozemok na druhej strane cesty. Tam vytvoril pomerne veľkú záhradu okolo jazierka s japonskými prvkami. Presne to jazierko s leknami a zeleným mostíkom, ktorý namaľoval na jeden zo svojich dnes už najznámejších obrazov The water lily pond. Okolo záhrady sa vinie potôčik a obmýva brehy vysadené ľaliovkami a bambusmi. Brehy sú spevnené vypletaným prútím, čo vyzerá prirodzene a nenútene.
Monet later bought the land on the other side of the road. There he built a relatively large garden around the pond with Japanese elements. Exactly that lake with waterlilies and a green bridge, which was painted on one of its most famous paintings, The Water lily pond. A stream curves around the garden and bathering the banks planted with daylilies and bamboos. Banks are reinforced with a interwoven hurdles, which looks naturally and unobtrusively.
Z okraja záhrady prechádzam k jazierku a naskytnú sa pohľady na kvitnúce lekná a bohatú pobrežnú výsadbu. Bežné trvalky, ako funkie, astilby, paprade, sa dopĺňajú s japonskými javormi, vŕbami a gigantickou trvalkou gunerou. Vidno, že záhrada je nesmierne populárna, všade sú davy turistov, čo trochu uberá z krásy a atmosféry záhrady. Blížim sa k slávnemu zelenému mostíku. To, čo som videl len na obraze, je reálne. Akoby som sa v ňom ocitol. Zvláštny pocit. Postupujem v dave ďalej a fotím a spoznávam rastliny. Na ďalšom konci jazierka je druhý most, ponad ktorý prevísa smútočná vŕba a šplhá sa vistéria.
From the edge of the garden, I walk over to the pond to see the flowering waterlilies and rich bank planting. Common perennials, such as hostas, astilbe, ferns are complemented by Japanese maples, willows and a gigantic perennial gunnera. It is seen that the garden is extremely popular, there are crowds of tourists who take a bit of the beauty and atmosphere of the garden. I'm approaching the famous green bridge. What I saw only on the picture, is real. As if I found myself in it. Strange feeling. I walk in the crowd, taking pictures and exploring the plants. At the other end of the pond is the second bridge, which is overhung by weeping willow and wisteria.
Jediným východom je vrátiť sa späť a vstúpiť do obchodíku so suvenírmi na okraji domu. Všetko, na čom sa dá vyobraziť výjav zo záhrady či Monetove maľby, je možné kúpiť. Hrnčeky, kabelky, tričká, perá, magnetky. Mňa však zaujali knižky o rastlinách a Monetovom záhradnom dizajne a taktiež semienka rastlín, aké som mohol vidieť v záhrade. Neváham a jednu knižku a balíček semien kapucínky kupujem. Podľa knižky teraz viem, že záhradu sa oplatí navštíviť na jar, keď kvitnú tisícky tulipánov a na jeseň tiež, keď kvitnú neskoré trvalky.
The only exit is to go back and enter the souvenir shop on the edge of the house. Everything on what can be pictured seen in the garden or Monet's painting, is possible to buy. Mugs, handbags, t-shirts, pens, magnets. But I was interested in books about plants and Monet's garden design, and also the plant seeds I could see in the garden. I didn't hesitate and I bought a book and a pack of nasturtium seeds. According to the book, I now know that the garden is worth visiting in the spring when thousands of tulips bloom and in autumn, too, when late perennials are in peak.
Kým sme sa vrátili na parkovisko, prešli sme sa dedinkou. Treba nakuknúť aj do vedľajších uličiek, všade samé prekvapenia. Obchodík s dáždnikmi s vyobrazenými Monetovými obrazmi, reštaurácia s prútenými kačkami a ďalšie a ďalšie suveníry. Všetky záhradky a ulice sú upravené a rozkvitnuté. Pomaly sme sa presunuli a nastúpili na autobus späť na stanicu do mestečka Vernon.
By the time we returned to the car park, we walked through the village. I recomend to look into the sideways, surprises all around. Umbrella shop with Monet paintings depicted, restaurant with hurdle ducks and more and more souvenirs. All gardens and streets are well-groomed and blooming. We moved slowly and got back to the station to Vernon.
Ak Vás tvorba Moneta zaujíma a obdivujete jeho záhradu, určite v Paríži zájdite do Galérie Musée de l´Orangerie Múzeum. Sú tam dve oválne miestnosti a v každej štyri vskutku dlhé a obrovské obrazy jazierka s leknami. Návštevou múzea som si porovnal, ako jazierko vyzerá v skutočnosti a ako na maľbe resp. ako vyzeralo pred viac ako sto rokmi. Aj tu odporúčam kupovať lístky vopred. Vstupné je zadarmo prvú nedeľu v mesiaci.
If you are interested in Monet's work and admire his garden, you definitely have to go to the museum Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris. There are two oval rooms there, and in everyone four really long and huge pictures of a pond with waterlilies. By visiting the museum I compared how the pond looks know and how it looked like in the past, more than 100 years ago. I also recommend to buy tickets in advance. Admission is free on the first Sunday of the month.
Monet bol teda geniálny umelec, ktorý v záhrade maľoval lopatkou a na plátne dokonalými pohybmi štetca. Čo dodať. Treba vidieť.
