Podobne ako Vrtbovská záhrada, aj Valdštajnská záhrada je z ulice neviditeľná. Medzi zastávkami Malostranská a Malostranské námestie sa väčšina turistov presúva električkou. Ak sa však vydáte peši, čoskoro prídete k vysokému múru, ktorý ničím nenaznačuje, aký poklad sa za ním skrýva. Jedinou indíciou sú malé dvere. Po ich prekročení vás však očarí o to väčšie prekvapenie.

Like the Vrtba Garden, the Valdstein Garden as well is invisible from the street. Between Malostranská street and Malostranské Square stops, most of the tourists travel by a tram. But if you go by foot, you will soon come to a high wall, which doesn't indicate at all the treasure behind it. The only indication is a small door. But when you step in, you become amazed by the big surprise.

Vchádzam dnu a mám na výber niekoľko smerov. Uličky sú lemované vysokými hrabovými plotmi a skrývajú, čo je za nimi. Tak som si vybral strednú cestičku, vedúcu priamo od vchodu. Vedie k parterom vyplneným trávnikom a k jazierku.

I enter inside and have several directions to choose from. The paths are edges with tall hornbeam hedges and hide what is behind them. So I chose the middle path, leading right from the entrance. It leads to the parterres filled with lawn and to the pond.

Stredobodom parteru je fontána so sústrednými lúčmi vody smerujúcimi na súsošie. A pretože je záhrada oddelená od ulice múrom, je tu len ticho prerušované upokojujúcou hrou vody.

In the center of the parterre is a fountain with concentric rays of water sprinkling towards the sculpture. And because the garden is separated from the street by the wall, there is only silence interrupted by soothing water.

Neďaleko odo mňa vidím veľkú vodnú plochu, tak mierim k nej. Pomerné veľké jazierko obývajú ryby rôznych farieb. V strede je ostrov s parterom a sochou Herkula a v rohoch zas výsadba kosatcov žltých. Veľmi príjemné a upokojujúce miesto. Po záhrade sa premáva biely páv a je tu dosť miesta na sedenie. Využívam možnosť, sadám si a nechávam na seba pôsobiť okamih, ktorý ma obklopuje. Okrem toho si všímam, že popri múre je rad statných magnólií, ktoré svojimi kvetmi korunujú záhradu v období jari.

Not far from me I can see a large water surface, so I move towards it. Relatively large pond is inhabited by fish of different colors. In the center there is an island with a parterre and a statue of Hercules, and in the corners are growing yellow irises. Very pleasant and soothing place. White peacock walks around the garden and there are plenty of seating places. I use the opportunity to sit down and focus myself to the moment surrounding me. Besides, I notice that alongside the wall there are a number of magnificent magnolias, which glamourize the garden with their flowers in spring.

Všetky sochy v záhrade majú svoju tabuľu s popisom.

In the back there is a greenhouse with arranged room plants.

Pri jazierku je z opačnej strany tabuľa s vyobrazeným panoramatickým pohľadom, ktorý popisuje dominanty Prahy.

On the opposite side of the pond, is a table with a panoramic view depicting the dominants of Prague.

Obchádzam jazierko a dostávam sa ku skleníku. Nie je prístupný, no cez sklo vidím bohatú zbierku rôznych izbových rastlín. Tu stretávam ďalšieho páva.

I walk around the lake and get to the greenhouse. Not accessible, but through the glass I see a rich collection of different room plants. Here I meet another peacock.

Pohľad cez sklo do skleníka na peknú zbierku izbových kvetín. Sú tu rôzne druhy, predovšetkým fikusy, pieprovce, begónie, aechmey, aglaonémy, sansevierie, potosovce a sukulenty.

View through glass to the greenhouse with a nice collection of room plants. There are various species, particularly ficus, radiator plant, begonias, aechmeas, aglaonemas, mother-in-low's tongues, pothos and succulents.

Od jazierka sa vraciam späť a prechádzam okolo sochy Triumf Cnosti nad Neresťou.

From the pond I go back and walk around the statue "Triumf Cnosti nad Neřestí".

Cez priezor v plote som zbadal krásny strom ginka a pokračujem ďalej. Uličky lemované hrabovým plotom ponúkajú letmé prehľady a lákajú objavovať. Môj pohľad upútala malá fontánka. Prakticky vždy je niekde dominanta, ktorá navádza pokračovať v ceste. Keď ju návštevník dosiahne, objaví sa ďalšia a takto to pokračuje celý čas.

I saw a beautiful ginkgo tree through the glimpse in the hedge and I continue on. The paths edged with hornbeam hedge offer short views and endear to discover. My gaze caught a small fountain. Virtually always there is a dominant feature that encourage to continue the journey. When the visitor reaches it, the next one will appear, and this continues all the way.

Nielen záhradné prvky fungujú ako lákadlo, ale aj okolité dominanty, v tomto prípade veže blízkeho kostola.

Not only the garden features act as a temptation, but also the surrounding dominants, in this case the towers of a nearby church.

Ten moment prekvapenia, keď si myslím, že som dosiahol cieľ (fontánu). A zrazu sa vynorí nový priestor, ktorý vyrazí dych. Živý plot zakrýva pohľad až do poslednej chvíle.

That moment of surprise when I think I have achieved the finish point (fountain). And suddenly there is a new space that let me speechless. The hedge hides the view until the last moment.

Od fontány vedie promenáda lemovaná sochami bohov a partermi, ktorá smeruje priamo k tzv. sala terrena (záhradná sála).

From the fountain there is a promenade lined with sculptures of gods and parterres, which goes directly to the so-called sala terrena (formal garden room).

Väčšina parterov je vyplnená trávnikom, iba niektoré boli vysadené fialovým skrutcom, ktorý vonia po vanilke.

Most of the parterres are filled with lawn, only some of them were planted with a purple garden heliotrope that smells like a vanilla.

Sala terrena (záhradná sála) je otvorená stavba tvoriaca výraznú dominantu záhrady. Je bohato zdobená maľbami a pravidelne sa tu usporadúvajú koncerty. Pred ňou je voľná plocha pre divákov s množstvom lavičiek.

Sala terrena (garden room) is an open structure that forms the dominant garden feature. It is richly decorated with paintings and concerts are held regularly here. In front of it there is a free area for auditorium with lots of benches.

Táto časť záhrady je znova oddelená živým plotom, za ktorým je priestor pre tiché posedenie na kruhových lavičkách v tieni stromov. Záhrada je tu ohraničená vysokým múrom vo forme grotta, teda umelou jaskyňou. Pred múrom sú záhony plné kvitnúcich hortenzií a zároveň je tu výstava k oslave 100 výročia vzniku Československej republiky. V rohu stojí prekrásna voliéra, ktorá je domovom pre výra skalného.

This part of the garden is once again separated by a hedge behind which there is room for quiet sitting on circular benches in the shade of trees. The garden is surrounded by a high wall in the form of a grotto, an artificial cave. In front of the wall there are flower beds full of flowering hydrangeas, and there is an exhibition too to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Czechoslovak Republic foundation. There is a beautiful aviary in the corner, which is home to eagle-owl.

Z výstavy ma zaujali tieto dve mapy, jedny z prvých zobrazujúcich hranice Československa.

These two maps cought my eye, one of the first displaying Czechoslovak borders.

Uličkou sa vraciam na miesto, odkiaľ som prišiel. Ešte jeden pohľad späť . . .

Throught the path I return to a place, where I came from. One more look back . . .

Pri východe som si všimol krásny kus popínavej hortenzie (Hydrangea petiolaris). Bola síce už takmer odkvitnutá, no stále pekná. Pestuje sa málo a zaslúžila by si väčšiu pozornosť.

At the exit I noticed a beautiful specimen of climbing hydrangea (Hydrangea petiolaris). It was almost after flowering, but still nice. It is grown rarily and deserves more attention.

Vojanovy sady Vojan orchards

Z Valdštejnskej záhrady je to len na skok. Pár krokov na vedľajšej ulici vedúcej z Malostranskej ku Karlovmu mostu stojí vysoký múr a za ním nenápadné stromy. Ďalší skrytý raj, tentokrát s pridanou hodnotou.

EN: From the Valdstein Garden it's just a jump. A few steps on the adjacent street leading from Malostranska stop to Charles Bridge stands a high wall and behind it some inconspicuosus trees. Another hidden paradise, this time with added value.

Aj v tomto prípade vôbec nič neláka vojsť dnu do parku. Jedine šípka ukazujúca na verejné WC :)

Even in this case, there is nothing inviting to enter the park. Just one arrow pointing to a public toilet :)

Pri vstupe tak objavujem rozsiahlu oázu plnú starých stromov. Ale hlavne jabloní, orechov a hrušiek, ktorých tu bolo najviac. Boli staré, hrubé, ale obsypané plodmi. V tom spočíva pridaná hodnota. Vojanovy sady je v podstate park vysadený z ovocných stromov. Samozrejme, vyskytujú sa tu aj okrasné stromy. Červenolistý buk, stará vŕba, ginko či magnólie.

As I enter, I discover a vast oasis full of old trees. But especially apples, wallnuts and pears, which were most abundant. They were old, thick, but covered with fruits. This is the added value. Vojan orchards is basically a park planted with fruit trees. Of course, there are also ornamental trees. Purple-leaved beech, old willow, ginkgo or magnolia.

Pri vstupe upúta statný červenolistý buk (Fagus sylvatica ´Atropunicea´).

At the entrance there is a stunning purple-leaved beech (Fagus sylvatica 'Atropunicea').

Park má voľnejšiu atmosféru, bez prísnych štruktúr. Ľudia voľne ležia na tráve a užívajú si slnečný deň.

The park has a more relaxed atmosphere without strict structures. People are lying freely on the grass and enjoying a sunny day.

Naozaj stará a hrubá smútočná vŕba dáva miestu pocit nostalgie. Jej dlhé konáre sa skláňajú nad malým jazierkom.

A really old and thick weeping willow gives the place a feeling of nostalgia. Its long branches bent over a small pond.

Park je plný starých stromov hrušiek. Majú typický tvar so štíhlym kmeňom. Uprostred je novo vysadený stromček orecha vlašského.

The park is full of old pear trees. They have a typical shape with a slimy trunk. In the middle there is a newly planted walnut tree.

Všetky stromy bohato zarodili. All trees were richly fruited.

Od jazierka pokračujem doprava, pretože ma upútala medená guľa uprostred trávnika. Je to krásne umelecké dielo citlivo umiestnené do kompozície stromov.

From the pond I continue to the right, because the copper ball in the middle of the lawn caught my attention . It is a beautiful artwork sensitively placed in the composition of trees.

Okrem gule je tu aj zdanlivo nenápadná dominanta. Vľavo vidno strom s previsnutými konármi. Je to samička ginka (Ginkgo biloba).  

Besides the ball, there is also a seemingly modest dominant. On the left you can see a tree with pendulous branches. It is a female ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba).

Prekrásny perfektne vyvážený záhon s výsadbou v pastelových farbách. Vpredu biele margarétky, starček, ružové a oranžové dálie a funkia. V strednej línii sú výrazné mečovité listy kosatcov, fialové šalvie (Salvia farinacea) a rozchodník so zelenými súkvetiami. V pozadí je dominantou veľký trs veternice (Anemone tomentosa) a bielej hortenzie. Všetko je to zarámované zeleným pozadím borievky.  

Beautiful, perfectly balanced border with planting in pastel colours. In front white daisies, silver ragwort, pink and orange dahlias and hostas. In the central line there are bold sword-shaped leaves of irises, purple sages (Salvia farinacea) and sedum with green inflorescens. In the background is dominat large clump of Japanese anemones (Anemone tomentosa) and white hydrangea. Everything is framed by the green background of the juniper.

Na druhej strane chodníka ma upútali dve vyrezávané drevené sochy. Pri bližšom pohľade však zisťujem, že sa jedná o úle. Za nimi je stena, pri ktorej sa pestujú figovníky.

On the other side of the walkway, two carved wooden sculptures caught my attention. Looking closer, however, I find that it's a hive. Behind them is a wall where fig trees are grown.

Úle, hortenzie, stará hruška (vľavo), figovníky a stena zarastená paviničom. Vidiecka romantika v centre Prahy.

Spomenul som si, že som tu videl rásť ginko, tak som sa samozrejme šiel pozrieť zblízka. A je to veru nádherný exemplár.

I remembered that I saw growing ginko tree here, so of course I went to look close up. And it's really a wonderful piece of work.

Z tejto časti parku sa vraciam späť a smerujem k malej kaplnke. Chodník sa prepletá stromami orechov a hrušiek a vedia až k robustnému schodisku. Vôbec nie je vidno, čo je za ním.

From this part of the park I go back and head for a small chapel. The walkway interwove among walnut and pear trees and leads to a robust staircase. There is no idea what's behind it.

Na starých stromoch hrušiek niečo je. Majú svoj šarm a možno aj preto sa často objavujú v súťažiach o najkrajší strom.

Old pear trees are truly oddly beautiful. They have their charm and perhaps that's why they often appear in competitions for the most beautiful tree.

Po ceste nahor ma sprevádzala samička páva. Až neskôr zisťujem, že hore je formálna záhrada s parterom, ktorá je domovom pre celý kŕdeľ pávov.

On the way up I was accompanied by a female peacock. Later I find that at the top is a formal garden with parterres that is home to the entire flock of peacocks.

Podobný scenár ako pri vstupe do parku. Dominantou je červeno listý buk. Pred ním magnólia Soulangova a ruže v nádobách. Štyri krušpánové partery sú vyplnené trávnikov a uprostred nich je malá fontánka.

A scenario similar to the moment of entering the park. The dominant feature is the purple-leaved beech. In front of it, the saucer magnolia tree and the roses in the pots. The four box parterres are filled with lawn and a small fountain in the middle.

Hlavnými pútačmi však boli pávy. A to na rôznych miestach. Aj na okne :)

The main attraction were peacocks though. In different places. On a windowsill too :)

Pozdĺž jednej strany záhrady viedla trelážová konštrukcia porastená brečtanom. Vytváral tak dlhý tunel, v ktorom je možné si posedieť na lavičkách a užiť si trochu súkromia. Keďže tu bolo pomerne veľa pávov, stačí chvíľu posedieť a zabávať sa. Popoludní je táto časť parku v tieni budovy a preto sa mi počas horúceho dňa ani nechce odtiaľto odísť.

Along one side of the garden, leads trellis structure covered in ivy. It created thus a long tunnel, where you can sit on the benches and enjoy some privacy. Since there were quite a lot of peacocks, all you need is to sit around and have fun. This part of the park in the shade of the building in afternoon and therefore I did't want to leave this place during the hot day.

Cestou dole si ešte prezerám ovocné stromy. Nie sú nijako označené, čo je škoda. Je ich tu veľa a jednou z možností, ako zistiť, čo je to za odrodu, by bolo ochutnať :) To však prenechám ostatným.

On the way down, I take a look at the fruit trees. They are not labeled, which is a pity. There is a lot of them and one of the ways to find out what a variety it is, is to taste :) But I let it for the others.

Valdštajnská záhrada a Vojanovy sady sú ďalšie skryté poklady Prahy. Chránené múrmi pred ruchom ulice poskytnú nerušené zážitky uprostred zelene. Tak neváhajte objavovať a nakúkať za brány, možno nájdete tú svoju krajinu zázrakov :)

The Valdstein garden and the Vojan orchards are anther hidden treasures of Prague. Protected by the walls from the streets, they provide undisturbed experiences in the middle of the greenery. So don't hesitate to discover and look behind the gates, maybe you'll find your land of miracles :)
