Dostupnosť je priam luxusná. Z Nádraží Holešovice (zastávka metra C) premáva autobus číslo 112 v hustom intervale. Po krátkej jazde som na konečnej a vydávam sa do záhrady. Počas zimných mesiacov je vstup voľný, takže minimálne kvôli prechádzke v peknom prostredí a s výhľadmi sa to určite oplatí. V záhrade sa rekonštruovali chodníky. Nové svetlé žulové kocky dodajú šmrc a tak bude záhrada nastávajúcu sezónu ešte krajšia.
Accessibility is literally luxurious. From Nádraží Holešovice (stop at underground line C) bus 112 operates in a dense intervals. After a short ride I'm on the terminus and I walk to the garden. During the winter months, the entrance is free, so at least for a walk in a nice environment and with views it will definitely pay off. The pavements were under reconstruction that time. The new bright granite cubes add a dazzle and so the garden of the upcoming season will be even more exquisite.
Aj vo februári je čo obdivovať. Stálozelené dreviny, ihličnany, kry a stromy s farebnou kôrou, bambusy a mnoho ďalších nevšedných rarít. A kvety takisto !
Even in February, there's something to admire. Evergreen shrubs, conifers and trees with colored bark, bamboos and many other unusual rarities. And flowers too !
Pri vstupe do záhrady vítajú kvetináče s pestrou výsadbou. Okrem toho sa tu nachádzajú automaty na nápoje a toalety a množstvo banerov pozývajúcich do záhrady na rôzne akcie počas roka.
At the entrance to the garden containers with varied planting welcome visitors. In addition, there are vending machines and toilets and plenty of banners inviting to the garden for various events throughout the year.
Jednoduché, skromné, ale farebné. Svíb s červenou kôrou dodáva výšku výsadbe z modrozelenej kostravy, modrým fialkám, ružovej kapuste a vresu.
Simple, modest but colorful. The red-bark dogwood delivers a height to planting consisting of blue-green festuca, blue pansies, pink cabbage and heather.
V okolí sa rozprestiera skalka, zbierka farebných svíbov a tráv. Tie sú v suchom stave, no ich stonky v žltohnedých odtieňoch sú naďalej prekrásne.
At adjacent area, a rockery, collection of colorful dogwoods and grasses spreads. They are dried, but their stalks in yellowish shades are still beautiful.
V skalke odpočívajú rôzne skalničky. Množstvo z nich je stálozelených.
Various rockery plants rest among the stones. Many of them are evergreen.
Svíby sú veľmi efektné a nenáročné kry. Úplne vľavo je svíb so zelenou kôrou (Cornus sericea ´Flaviramea´), ďalej s tmavočervenou kôrou (Cornus alba) a so žltooranžovou kôrou (Cornus sanguinea ´Midwinter Fire´).
Dogwoods are very showy and easy-to-care shrubs. Far left is a dogwood with green bark (Cornus sericea ´Flaviramea´), then the one with dark-red bark (Cornus alba) and with yellow-orange bark (Cornus sanguinea ´Midwinter Fire´).
Zbierka okrasných tráv vynikne aj počas zimy.
The collection of ornamental grasses will also excel during the winter.
Cesta ma vedie do otvoreného priestranstva. Na jej okraji stojí ďalšia rozsiahlejšia skalka a oproti zbierka ihličnanov. Zvlášť na tie vzácne sa veľmi teším, nech som kdekoľvek. A samozrejme, musím si ich osahať.
The path leads me to an open space. On its edge is another rockery and a collection of conifers. I'm looking forward to especially rare ones, anywhere I am. And of course, I have to touch them.
Vzácny ihličnan Cunnighamia lanceolata ´Glauca´ trošku pripomína tis, ale má tuhé ihličie.
Rare conifer Cunnighamia lanceolata ´Glauca´ resembles a yew a bit, but it's needles is more rigid.
Moja obľúbená araukária andská (Araucaria araucana). Veľmi výrazný a architektonický strom s tvrdými ostrými ihlicami. Vyššie jedince sú odolné mrazu a tak stačí prikryť ich korene suchým lístím. Po anglicky sa tento strom volá monkey puzzle tree. Vtipné :)
My all time favourite monkey-puzzle-tree (Araucaria araucana). Very striking and architectural tree with rigid sharp needles. Taller specimens are hardy, so all what has to be done is to cover its roots with dry leaves. The English name of this species is quite funny to me :)
Aj táto jedľa španielska (Abies pinsapo) je mojím favoritom. Má totiž mäkké, na dotyk príjemné dužinaté ihlice.
This Spanish fir (Abies pinsapo) is also my favourite. It has soft, pleasant to touch and succulent needles.
Od zbierky ihličnanov vedú dve paralelné cestičky naprieč záhradou. Sú oddelené trvalkovými záhonmi. Pri ihličnanoch sa však dostávam ku kvitnúcim krom a ku kaplnke.
From the conifer collection, two parallel paths lead through the garden. They are separated by perennial borders. Next to conifers, however, I get to blooming shrubs and chapel.
Kalina voňavá (Viburnum farreri) je zimnou klasikou. Počas teplej zimy kvitne od jesene až do jari. A nádherne vonia.
Fragrant guelder-rose (Viburnum farreri) is winter classics. During warm winter it flowers from autumn to spring. Its scent is amazing.
Jazmín nahokvetý (Jasminum nudiflorum) je jediný mrazuvzdorný jazmín. Drobné žlté kvietky na zelených prútikoch prinesú slnko do každej záhrady. A vonia takisto.
Winter jasmine (Jasminum nudiflorum) is the only one hardy jasmine. Little yellow flowers on green twigs bring sun to every garden. It has also some scent.
Pomerne nedávno sa na trhu objavili odrody kamélií s vylepšenou mrazuvzdornosťou. Aj vďaka otepľujúcej sa klíme pomaly je možné ich pestovať u nás vonku. V tomto prípade sú obalené pletivom a zasypané suchým lístím. Zjavne im to vyhovuje. Kvetné puky vôbec neomrzli.
Relatively recently, cammelia cultivars with improved hardiness has occured on the market. Thanks to the warming climate too, it is possible to grow them outside here. In this case, they are coated with a wire mesh and covered with dry leaves. Apparently it suits them. The flower buds didn't get frozen at all.
Dostávam sa na južný okraj záhrady. Stojí tu kaplnka, odkiaľ je výhľad na Trojský zámok a na vinice sv. Kláry. Je tu zbierka rôznych odrôd viniča a poriadajú sa tu vínne slávnosti.
I got to the south edge of the garden. There is a chapel, overlooking the Trojan Castle and the St. Clare's Vineyards. There is a collection of different grape varietes and wine celebrations are held here.
Rozsiahle vinice sa zvažujú k ceste smerom k zámku. Zámocká záhrada je symetrická a jej centrom je labyrint z tvarovaného hrabu. V pozadí vidno Vltavu a severo-západnú časť Prahy.
Extensive vineyards descend on the way to the castle. The castle garden is symmetrical and its center is a labyrinth made of shaped hornbeam. In the background, the Vltava River and the north-western part of Prague.
Popri stene oddeľujúcej vinice od záhrady sa rozprestiera záhon so stredomorskými rastlinami. Levandule, santoliny, rozmarín, tymiány, sápy a ďalšie druhy tu bez problémov prežívajú.
Beside the wall separating the vineyard from the garden, a flower bed with Mediterranean plants spreads. Lavender, santolina, rosemary, thyme, Jerusalem sage and other species survive without troubles.
Kalina vavrínolistá (Viburnum tinus) kvitne veľmi skoro. Všimnite si jej červené puky a otvorené biele súkvetia. Je chúlostivá, neznáša silné mrazy a preto je zakrytá čečinou.
Laurestine (Viburnum tinus) blooms very early. Note the red buds and open white inflorescens. It is tender, doesn't tolerate strong frosts and is therefore covered with a conifer sprigs.
Na moje prekvapenie sa rozmarín zelenal aj kvitol a to bez akejkoľvek ochrany.
Surprisingly, rosemary was nice green and even bloomed without any protection.

Uprostred voľnej pláne, ktorú križuje dvojica mlátových chodníkov, sa týči párik sekvojovcov mamutích (Sequoiadendron giganteum). Sú to krásne husté jedince, no v porovnaní s pôvodnými sekvojovcami v Kalifornii sú to drobci.
In the middle of the spacious lawn, which is crossed by a pair of gravel paths, a pair of giant sequoias (redwoods) (Sequoiadendron giganteum) towers. They are beautiful dense individuals, but compared to the original sequoia trees in California, they are dwarfs.
Na informačnej tabuli je ukážka, ako sekvojovce v Kalifornii v skutočnosti vyzerajú. Na pravej fotke vidno v ľavom rohu dvojicu "nízkych" sekvojovcov z Trójskej záhrady a vložený obrázok sekvojovca v reálnej veľkosti. Je to najväčší exemplár s názvom Generál Sherman. Naozaj, strom kolosálnych rozmerov. Sekvojovce sú totiž najväčšie organizmy sveta.
In the information table is an illustration of how sequoias in California actually look like. In the right photo, in its left corner, is seen a pair of "little" sequoias from the Trojan Garden and added picture of a true-sized sequoia. It's the worlds largest specimen, called General Sherman. Indeed, a tree of colossal dimensions. Sequoias are the largest organisms in the world.
Zdanlivo obyčajná okrasná kapusta s delenými listami. V šedi holej pôdy však perfektne vynikne.
Apparently average ornamental cabbage with split leaves. However, it stands out on the gray soil perfectly.
Pekný rozkonárený exemplár brezy Jacquemontovej (Betula jacquemontii). Tento druh je známy čistou bielou kôrou. V anglických záhradách ich dokonca umývajú mydlovou vodou, aby boli žiarivé a lesklé.
A nice multi stem specimen of Himalayan birch (Betula jacquemontii). This species is known for pure white bark. In English gardens, they even wash them with soapy water so they look bright and shiny.
Bylinková záhrada pozostáva z menších prútených záhonov.
Herbal garden consist of smaller hurdle edged beds.
Chodník vedúci popri vinici ma doviedol až do vresoviska. Nachádzam tu okrem vresov a vresovcov množstvo zakrpatených ihličnanov a výhľad na mesto.
Path going along the vineyard, led me to the heathery. I find here, besides heathers, a lot of dwarf conifers and a view of the city.
Výrazným prvkom je Japonská záhrada. Stredobodom je "ostrov" s tvarovanou borovicou a uhrabaným štrkom. Po obvode rastú dreviny typické pre východné záhrady: rododendróny, azalky, okrasné čerešne, svíby, trávy a podobne. Niektoré dreviny boli vysadené významnými osobnosťami. Okrem toho tu nachádzam aj stromy, ktoré pochádzajú z Japonska a z východnej Ázie, napríklad cryptoméria, metasekvoja či bambusy.
An outstanding feature is the Japanese Garden. The center is an "island" with a shaped pine and raked gravel. The shrubs typical of the eastern gardens are growing circumferentially: rhododendrons, azaleas, ornamental cherries, dogwoods, grasses etc. Some shrubs were planted by prominent persons. I also find trees from Japan and East Asia, such as Japanese red-cedar, dawn redwood or bamboos.

Shaped pine on the "island". Rocks and shaped bushes are an important feature.
Ak sa pošťastí a je teplý február (ako tomu bolo na jar 2016), tak stredobodom pozornosti v tomto kúte je jednoznačne čerešňa (Prunus mume). Vyzerá ako kvitnúca broskyňa. Sýte a jemne voňavé kvety žiaria široko-ďaleko ❤❤❤
If you're lucky enough and it is a warm February (as it was in the spring of 2016), the center of attention in this corner become undoubtedly ornamental cherry (Prunus mume). It looks like a flowering peach tree. Vibrant and softly fragrant flowers shine far-away.
Aj jazmín nahokvetý sa dá dobre tvarovať. Koncom zimy poteší žltými kvetmi.
Winter jasmine can be easily shaped too. It bears yellow flowers at the end of winter.
Korálky na strome? Ale kdeže! Krásnoplod (Callicarpa bodinieri) je málo známy ker, ktorý plodí lesklé fialové bobule.
Beads on a tree? Not really ! Beautyberry (Callicarpa bodinieri) is less known bush, that produces shiny violet berries.
Milujem hamamely. Kvitnú v mrazivom počasí a voňajú. Počas roka sú nenápadné, no teraz sú hviezdami. Krásne sýte farby.
I love witchhazels. They bloom in frosty weather and are fragrant. They are obscured during the year, but they are stars now. Beautiful colors.
Zatiaľ čo jedna časť záhrady je otvorená, s výsadbou po obvode, časť vo svahu je hustejšia. Tvarované tavoľníky (Spiraea japonica) a neopadavé zemolezy (Lonicera pileata) sa striedajú s tieňomilnými trvalkami a trávami. Malé jazierko, potôčik a altánok nesmú chýbať. Na tejto výsadbe vidno, že záhrada v zime nemusí byť nudná.
While one part of the garden is open, with planting aroundr, the part on the slope is thicker. Shaped spiraeas (Spiraea japonica) and evergreen honeysuckle (Lonicera pileata) alternate with shade-loving perennials and grasses. Small pond, creek and gazebo cannot be missed. This planting shows that the winter garden doesn't have to be boring.
Ďalším typickým prvkom sú štrkové polia s kameňmi. Štrk je uhrabaný tak, aby pripomínal vlnenie vodnej hladiny. Nič viac, nič menej. V Japonsku existujú záhrady, ktoré vyzerajú len takto.
Another typical feature is gravel areas with solitair rocks. Gravel is raked to resemble water level waving. Nothing more, nothing less. There are gardens in Japan that look just like this.
Z japonskej záhrady vychádzam k bufetu s názvom Botanická na talíři. Nápoje, občerstvenie a polievky. Ponuka je pestrá. Bufet sa týči nad suchomilným (xerofytným) spoločenstvom rastúcom na pieskových dunách. V susedstve ma upútal polozapustený prístupný skleník. Vnútri rastú v blokoch rašeliny chladnomilné orchidey a paprade.
From the Japanese garden I exit to the buffet named Botanical on a plate. Drinks, snacks and soups. The offer is varied. The buffet looks over a drought-loving (xerophyte) plant community growing on sand dunes. A half-open, accessible greenhouse caught me in the neighborhood. Inside grow cool-loving orchids and ferns in peat bricks.
Poniže bufetu sa oplatí zablúdiť do bambusového hája. Prevažne druh Phyllostachys nigra vytvára priam magickú atmosféru listov a stebiel. Vnútri je skryté tiché miesto na sedenie.
Bellow the buffet it is worth to see the bamboo grove. The predominant species Phyllostachys nigra creates a magical atmosphere of leaves and stems. There is a hidden quiet place to sit inside.
Pár krokov ďalej a prichádzam k jazierku so sochou žaby skokana. Je tak upevnená, že popiera gravitáciu. Posúďte sami.
Few steps further and I arrive to pond with a jumping frog statue. It's fixed like it denies gravity. Judge yourself.
Od bufetu vedie cesta nahor do kopca. Tam na lúke je rozmiestnených niekoľko lavičiek a detských prvkov. V blízkosti je samostatná včelia záhrada s náučným domom včelára.
The path leads up the hill from the buffet. There are several benches and children's features in the meadow. Nearby is a separate bee garden with an educative beekeeper house.
Úle, vodný prvok, medonosné dreviny a ďalšie náučné tabule a prvky o živote včiel. Pekné miesto určené na vzdelávanie.
Hives, water feature, bee-friendly shrubs and other instruction boards and features about bee life. Nice place for education.
Chodníček naďalej stúpa až k vyhliadke. Botanická záhrada je tu ako na dlani. Zároveň vás postrážia železné žirafy (samec a samička) zo starých rúr a cisterien.
The path continues to rise towards the view point. Botanical garden is here like on the palm. At the same time, the iron giraffes (male and female) made from old pipes and cisterns keep an eye on you.
Na vrchole kopca ďalej pokračujem do lesoparku. Zaujíma ma, čo je na jeho konci. Rozsiahle zbierky rastlín. Desiatky odrôd kosatcov, ihličnanov, magnólií, pivoniek či tráv. Je to akoby ďalšia samostatná záhrada aj s vlastným vstupom od sídliska Bohnice.
At the top of the hill I continue on to the forest park. I wonder what's at its end. Extensive plant collections. Dozens of varieties of irises, conifers, magnolias, paeonias or grasses. It's like a separate garden with its own entrance from Bohnice housing estate.
Najviac ma zaujalo spoločenstvo suchomilných severoamerických púštnych rastlín. Okrem klasických júk (Yucca filamentosa) tu nachádzam stromovité juky (napr. Yucca elata) a mrazuvzdorné kaktusy.
I was most attracted by the community of drought-loving North American desert plants. In addition to classical yuccas (Yucca filamentosa), I find tree-like yuccas (eg. Yucca elata) and hardy cacti.
Musím skonštatovať, že aj vo februári, keď sa zdá, že v botanickej záhrade nie je čo vidieť, je mnoho krásnych rastlín a záhonov. Naopak teraz vyniknú siluety stromov, ich kôra, neopadavé listy či celková kompozícia záhrady. Určite sa tu zastavím aj niekedy počas sezóny. A na záver, aby som nezabudol. Neďaleko je fenomenálny obrovský skleník vo svahu menom Fata Morgána. O tom však niekedy nabudúce.
I must say that even in February, when there seems to be nothing in the botanical garden, there are many beautiful plants and borders. On the contrary, the silhouettes of trees, their bark, evergreen leaves or the overall composition of the garden now stand out. I will definitely stop here sometimes during the season. And finally, not to forget. Nearby is a phenomenal huge greenhouse on the slopes called Fata Morgana.
Od turniketu prejdem pár krokov popri jesenných trvalkách a dostávam sa na križovatku ciest pred rozsiahlym voľným trávnikom. Doľava vedie cesta k bambusovému háju s rybníkom, doprava ku zbierke ihličnanov a priamo hore ku kvitnúcim letničkovo-trvalkovým záhonom.
From the turnstile, I walked a few steps alongside the autumn perennials and get on a crossroads ahead of a large spacious lawn. To the left leads a path to a bamboo grove with a pond, to the right to the conifer collection and straight up to the flowering annual-perennial border.
Spomínaný záhon vedie diagonálne na vrchole voľnej trávnatej plochy a je uprostred dvojitej promenády. Tento rok (2018) bola záhrada venovaná africkému umeniu, preto všetky letničky v záhone pochádzali práve z Afriky. Záhon voľne prechádza z bieložltej farby po oranžovú a červenú, až je ukončený fialovomodrými kvetmi.
This flower bed runs diagonally at the top of the lawn area and is in the middle of the double promenade. This year (2018), the garden was devoted to African art, so all annuals in the border came from Africa. The border freely passed from the white-yellow to the orange and red until it was finished with violet-blue flowers.
Stredomorský záhon pri múre oddeľujúcom vinice sv. Kláry od botanickej záhrady. Rastú tu vzrastlé rozmaríny, levandule, rôzne bylinky a albízia. To je strom v pozadí s voľnou dáždnikovou korunou. V lete kvitne ružovými kvetmi.
The Mediterranean border along the wall separating the St. Clare's vineyards from the botanical garden. Rosemary, lavender, various herbs and albisia grow here. That is the tree in the background with umbrella crown. In summer, it blooms with pink flowers.
Cesta vedie až dolu kopcom po južnom svahu do ďalšej časti záhrady tiež venovanej stredomorským teplomilným rastlinám. Dobre sa tu darí cyprusu vždyzelenému (Cupressus sempervirens).
The path leads downhill on the southern slope to another part of the garden also dedicated to Mediterranean thermophilous plants. Italian cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) flourish here.
Nachádzam tu rozmaríny veľkosti človeka a levanduľové políčko.
I found here rosmary in height of human and small lavender field.
Zastavil som sa znova v Japonskej záhrade. Tentokrát som si všimol vzácny strom menom davídia (Davidia involucrata) prezývaného ako vreckovkový strom. Začiatkom leta totiž kvitne kvetmi s veľkými bielymi listeňmi, ktoré pripomínajú plátky vreckoviek.
I stopped again in the Japanese garden. This time I noticed a rare tree named handkerchief tree (Davidia involucrata). At the beginning of the summer, it blossoms with large white bracts that resemble pieces of handkerchiefs.
Na priestranstve za reštauráciou sa v septembri až októbri organizuje výstava tekvíc. Boli naaranžované do rôznych postavičiek, od trojhlavého draka, čerta a bosorky až po snehulienku a sedem trpaslíkov.
An exhibition of pumpkins is organized in September through to October at area beyond the restaurant. They were arranged in various figures, from the threeheaded dragon, the devil and the witch to the Snow White and the seven dwarfs.
Neďaleko je predajná výstava sôch ručne vyrobenými africkými umelcami. Výstava je súčasťou témy roku 2018 venovanej Afrike.
Nearby there is a sale exhibition of statues handcrafted by African artists. The exhibition is part of Africa's 2018 theme.
V slnečný jesenný deň bolo v záhrade množstvo ľudí, len tak oddychujúcich na tráve či lehátkach. Jednoducho idylka :)
On the sunny autumn day, there were many people in the garden, just relaxing on the grass or the deckchairs. Simply idyll :)
Typickou cibuľovinou, ktorá kvitne na jeseň je jesienka (Colchicum autumnale). Podobá sa na šafrán, dorastá ale väčších rozmerov a je prudko jedovatá.
A typical bulbous species that blooms in the autumn is autumn crocus (Colchicum autumnale). It looks like spring crocus, but it is larger in size and is poisonous.
Trója je prekrásne miesto pre všetkých bez ohľadu na ročné obdobie. Veľká a priestranná záhrada s množstvom vzácnych druhov a udržovanými záhonmi. Každý, kto navštívi Prahu, ju musí vidieť.
Troja is a beautiful place for everyone regardless of the season. Large and spacious garden with plenty of rare species and well kept borders. Everyone who visits Prague have to see it.
POZNÁMKA NA ZÁVER: Od roku 2021 prebieha významná rekonštrukcia vstupného areálu a preto boli aj okolité výsadby dočasne zrušené. Do záhrady sa dostanete náhradným vstupom bližšie k vinici.
