Údolie Gastein som mal možnosť navštíviť ešte v auguste 2009. V záujme turistov je predovšetkým v zime, pretože je to populárne
lyžiarske stredisko. Ja však nelyžujem a oveľa viac ma zaujíma príroda. Milovník divokej flóry, ale aj balkónových kvetín tu nájde raj.
V doline sú celkovo tri dedinky: Dorfgastein, Bad Hofgastein a Bad Gastein. V prvej dedinke sme boli ubytovaní. Je tu vhodné miesto na turistiku. V nasledujúcej dedinke sú kúpele s teplým bazénom pod holým nebom a v tretej je už pravé lyžiarske stredisko, odkiaľ sa lanovkou dá dostať až na hrebene Álp.
I had the opportunity to visit Gastein Valley in August 2009. It is popular for tourists mainly in winter because it's a favourite ski resort. But I don't ski and I'm much more interested in nature. A lover of wild flora, as well as of balcony flowers, finds a paradise here.
There are three villages in the valley: Dorfgastein, Bad Hofgastein and Bad Gastein. We were accomodated in the former village. There is a good place for hiking. In the next village you will find a spa with a hot open swimming pool and in the latter is a real ski resort, from where you can reach Alps ridges by cable car. Dorfgastein

Village looked like from a fairy tale. Everywhere maintained houses and pensions, and especially the rich hanging annuals on the balconies. Asi najkrajší dom so záhradkou, aký som tu videl. Na balkóne očarujú muškáty, petúnie a dvojzubce. Pred domom kvitnú červené ruže a biela budleja. V kombinácii s purpurovolistým japonským javorom, borovicou a strieborným smrekom pichľavým vyzerá všetko na jednotku.
Probably the most beautiful house with garden I have seen here. Pelargoniums, petunias and bidens are flowering on balcony. Red roses and white buddleja in flower in front of the house. In combination with purple leaved Japanese maple, pine and silvery blue spruce everything looks perfectly.

. . . a na moje prekvapenie aj marhuľa. V Alpách, 812 m n m. !!! Dovolil som si jednu ochutnať a bola taká šťavnatá a sladká až neuveriteľné.
. . . and surprisingly apricot tree too. In Alps, 812 m above sea level !!! I dared to taste one and it was so juicy and sweet, it was unbelievable.

Zaujímavosťou je, že v každej z troch dediniek bolo záhradníctvo, takže všade je zabezpečený bohatý prídel letničiek. Ani sa nečudujem, veď doslova každý dom bol rozkvitnutý do krásy.
Interestingly, there was garden center in each of the three villages, so rich supply of annuals is ensured everywhere. I don't even marvel, literally every house was flowery into beauty.
Z dedinky vedie lanovka na okolité "kopce", ktoré si v lete neudržia sneh a tak je tam pestrá vegetácia. Samozrejme, pohľady boli úžasné.
From the village, the cableway leads to the surrounding "hills" that cannot keep snow in the summer and so there is various vegetation. Of course, the views were amazing.
Príroda je najlepší záhradkár a vytvoriť takúto skalku jej nerobí problém. Zvončeky maličké (Campanula cochleariifolia) a skalnice (Sempervivum) tu našli svoje útočisko.
Nature is the best gardener and to make such a rockery isn't an issue. Little bellflowers (Campanula cochleariifolia) and houseleeks (Sempervivum) found a refuge here.

Prilbica (Aconitum napellus) je veľmi pekná trvalka, ktorá sa niekedy pestuje aj v okrasných záhonoch. Je však veľmi jedovatá.
Aconite (Aconitum napellus) is a very nice perennial, which is sometimes grown in ornamental gardens. It's very poisonous though.
Bad Hofgastein
Kúpeľná dedinka je typická okrem pekných penziónov aj malým námestím a kostolíkom.
Spa village is typical besides pretty pensions, of little square and church.
Námestie je precízne upravené. Vpredu letničkový záhon je vysadený červenými šalviami ohnivými (Salvia splendens), žltými a oranžovými aksamietnicami (Tagetes) a bielymi a ružovými begóniami vždykvitnúcimi (Begonia semperflorens).
The squarre is precisely maintained. Annual border in front is planted with red scarlet sage (Salvia splendens), yellow and orange french marigolds (Tagetes) and white and pink wax begonias (Begonia semperflorens).
Opačná strana námestia vyzerá taktiež veľmi dobre. Pod starým brestom sa rozprestierajú trvalkové záhony. Práve kvitnú rudbekie, ľaliovky a ruže. Vpredu lemuje chodník nízky a vďačný tavoľník japonský (Spiraea japonica).
Opposite side of the square looked good too. Underneath the old elm tree, perennial borders spread. Black-eyed Susans, daylilies and rose were just in flower. The pavement is edged by low and grateful Japanese spiraea (Spiraea japonica).
Bohatá výsadba pred obchodom so suvenírmi. Petúnky, muškáty a dvojzubce na múriku sú klasika. Do výšky sa ťahajú tunbergie, tzv. čiernooká Zuzana (Thunbergia alata) a pred nimi na fialovo kvitne kleome. Keby aj u nás vyzerali vchody pred obchodmi takto :)
Rich planting in front of shop with souvenirs. Petunias, pelargoniums and bidens on parapet are classics. So-called black-eyed Susan vine (Thunbergia alata) is climbing to height and violet spider-flower in front of it. I wish the shop entrances here looked like this one :)
Bad Gastein
Dedinka predurčená na zimné športy žije turistami aj v lete. Priamo cez ňu preteká horský potok vytvárajúci hlučný vodopád.
A village destined for winter sports lives with tourists in the summer as well. A mountain stream flows directly through it, creating a noisy waterfall.Z Bad Gasteinu pokračuje cesta do hôr. Autom sme sa tunelom dostali až na záchytné parkovisko. Odtiaľto vedie asfaltová cestička cez dolinu až na salaš. Je tu panenská príroda, pasúce sa ovce a kravy. Vegetácia je bujná a sýto zelená. Bodaj by aj nie, keď sú dobre pohnojené.
From Bad Gastein continues the road to the mountains. By car, we got through the tunnel to the parking place. From here leads an asphalt path through the valley to the chalet. There is virgin nature, grazing sheep and cows. Vegetation is lush and deep green. Of course, it is well-fed.
Civilizácia je ďaleko, nikde žiadny ruch, len v pozadí počuť kravské zvony.
Civilization is far away, there is no rush, only cowbells can be heard in the background.
Salaš zdanlivo uprostred ničoho. Sem-tam na úbočí stojí nejaká budova, väčšinou stodoly. Majú tu skvelý jablkový koláč.
The chalet appears to be in the middle of nothing. Here and there is a building on the slope, mostly a barn. They have a great apple pie.
Pri salaši sú výbehy pre králiky a čierne prasiatko. Musím teda povedať, že zvieratká sa tu majú báječne.
Next to chalet are coops for rabbits and a black piglet. I have to say that the animals have wonderful conditions here.
Kravičky sa vracajú z paše. Škoda, že tú fialovú som nestretol :D
Tou najväčšou atrakciou je však lanovka. Vcelku dlhá a pohodlná cesta vedie až vysoko do 3000 metrových výšok. Bol som prekvapený, že aj cestou hore sa na strmých svahoch pásli ovečky i kravičky. Ako sa sem dostali?
The cows are coming back from pasture. It is a pity that I didn't met that purple one :D
The funicular is the biggest attraction. Quite long and comfortable trip leads up to 3000 meters altitude. I was surprised that even by the way up, sheep and cows grazed on steep slopes. How did they get here?
Pohľad na ľadovcové pleso. V týchto výškach sa drží sneh po celý rok. Nádherné, ako navzájom splýva zeleň s horami a s ich modrými a bielymi odtieňmi.
View of the iceberg lake. In these heights, snow is held all year round. Beautiful how the greenery blends with the mountains and their blue and white shades.

Horce oplývajú prekrásnou sýtomodrou farbou, akej v rastlinnej ríši nie je veľa. Horec jarný (Gentiana verna) kvitne od apríla do leta, no tu vysoko kvitol v polovici augusta. Zároveň kvitla aj prilbica (Aconicum napellus), ktorá kvôli drsným podmienkam bola menšieho vzrastu, no kvitla v jej štandardnom čase.
Gentians provide beautiful deep blue color, not much seen in the plant kingdom. Spring gentian (Gentiana verna) blooms from April to Summer, but here in heights bloomed in mid August. At the same time, the aconite (Aconicum napellus) was in flower, which due to harsh conditions was smaller, but it bloomed at its standard time.
Tomuto vravím skalničky ako sa patrí. Prirodzene si rastú medzi skalami a vďaka tomu sú pekné a zdravé. Nezábudky (hore vpravo) kvitnú na jar, no zdá sa, že tu môžu aj v lete. V kombinácii s lomikameňmi (dole vpravo), mini klinčekom (dole vľavo) a kamzičníkom Clusiovým (hore vľavo) tak vzniká úžasná kombinácia farieb a tvarov.
That's what I call rockery plants. They naturally grow among rocks and thanks to that they're nice and healthy. Forget-me-nots (right up) flower in spring, but it seems, that they can do it in summer here. The combination of saxifrages (right bottom), mini carnations (left bottom) and leopard's-bane (left up) make brilliant mixture of colours and shapes.

Cestou domov sme prechádzali cez Salzburg. Od Álp je to len na skok, tak sme sa v Mozzartovom rodisku zastavili. Mesto je veľmi krásne. Dominantou je hrad a rieka Salzach. Pre mňa však bol centrom pozornosti palác Mirabell a jeho záhrady. Tak či tak sa tu oplatí zájsť, pretože len odtiaľto sú super výhľady na mesto a hrad. Ten leží v centrálnej osi záhrady, všetko je tu symetrické.
On our way home we went through Salzburg. It's just a jump from Alps, so we stopped at Mozzart's birthplace. The city is very beautiful. The dominant feature is the castle and the river Salzach. But for me, Mirabell's palace and its gardens were the focus of attention. Anyway, it's worth to visit, because only from here is a great view of the city and the castle. It lies in the central axis of the garden, everything is symmetrical here.

The dominant feature of the garden is the annual borders in various patterns. In this case, red wax begonia shines.
Záhrada je priestranná a symetricky usporiadaná. Dochádza tu k harmónii umenia sôch, fontán a moderného umenia v podobe minimalistickej stavby Mozzartovej Univerzity (v pozadí).
The garden is spacious and symmetrically arranged. Here meets the harmony of the art of sculpture, fountains and contemporary art in the form of a minimalist construction of the Mozzart University (in the background).
Pred bránami paláca a v parteroch sú vysadené letničky vo výrazných kontrastných farbách. Strieborná santolina ohraničuje záhon s modrými šalviami (Salvia farinacea), žltými aksamietnicami a lososovými muškátmi. V parteroch navyše kvitli červené ruže polyantky.
In front of the gates of the palace and in the parters are planted annuals in striking contrasting colors. Silver santolina edges the border with blue sage (Salvia farinacea), yellow french marigolds and salmon pelargoniums. In addition, the red polyanthus roses bloomed.
Spätný pohľad od brány na hrad. Tu vidno centrálnu os vedúcu od paláca ku hradu, podľa ktorej je symetricky usporiadaná celá záhrada.

Mirabell záhrady ďalej pokračujú okolo paláca až poza neho a drží sa rovnakého štýlu. To znamená ornamentálne letničkové výsadby, partery a tvarované aleje. Je to príjemné miesto, zvlášť na ideálne zábery.
Mirabell Gardens continue around the palace and hold the same style. This means ornamental annual plantings, parters and shaped alleys. It's a nice place, particularly for ideal shots.
Alpy a Salzburg sú pre nás relatívne ďaleko, autom je to celodenná jazda, no určite sa oplatí vidieť vysokohorskú flóru, prekrásne dedinky a Mozzartove mesto. Tieto miesta majú svoje čaro ako v lete, tak i v zime. Auf Wiedersehen !
The Alps and Salzburg are relatively far away for us, by car it is a one-day drive, but it is definitely worthwhile seeing the alpine flora, the beautiful villages and Mozzart's town. These places have their charm both in summer and winter. Auf Wiedersehen !
